Sunday Funday: 2026 Garden Update and Cooking like a Granny!

FIRST:  Three recipes -  Cooking Like a Granny! #1 Fresh Peach Pie  (home frozen peaches) Two fresh pie crusts-unbaked Filling : 1 gallon baggie (6 cups) of frozen fresh peaches/juice drained a little, thawed completely 2/3 cup of sugar  4 heaping Tablespoons of flour  1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon  2 Tablespoons butter sliced into small pats Instructions: Roll one crust and gently place in the pie pan making sure the edges extend over the sides of the pan a little bit.   Mix up the filling and  pour into the crust.   Roll remaining crust (top) and cut into lattice strips about one inch wide or so.   Add strips across the pie.   Fold back the top half every other strip and add a cross strip starting in the middle with the longest strip.  Unfold those strips over and fold back the  remaining "every other" strips.  Add another cross strip. A Beginner's Journey with Fresh Ground Wheat: Super Easy No Knead Bread

Remember in children's book " The Little Red Hen " when she said, "Who will help me carry the wheat to the mill?" and her friends replied, "not I" said the goose; "not I" said the cat; and "not I" said the dog.  Being the city girl that I am, I never fully understood how the heck the Little Red Hen got soft fluffy flour from golden grass-like stalks of wheat. Two Hour Crockpot Bread - Baking Bread in a Crockpot

TWO HOUR CROCKPOT BREAD is short knead and no rise.   5 ingredients+ parchment paper + crockpot = DELICIOUS BREAD Get out of the kitchen and let the crockpot do the work! Crockpot Yeast Bread (See below for pics of the process.)   1 1/3 cup very warm water (hot, but no hurt – like a hot bath) 1 Tablespoon active dry yeast 1 Tablespoon sugar 3 cups all purpose flour 1 teaspoon table salt (Parchment paper is a must.)   Directions: 1.    T urn the crockpot on HIGH to preheat while mixing the dough. 2.     Combine hot/warm water, yeast and sugar and se t a timer for 10 minutes to allow time for "proofing" which just means letting the yeast/water/sugar start foaming.  3.         Combine the flour and salt in a mixing bowl. 4.         Once the yeast/water/sugar has proofed for 10 minutes  gently stir a little bit, and then pour over the flour/salt mix in the mixing bowl. 5...
