Great Snack/Beverage = No Alcohol-Bloody Mary Mix

My older daughter recently tried a version of Homemade Bloody Mary Mix that knocked her socks off!  She loves the stuff and actually prefers it without the alchohol!  Her friend who makes it, adds a little of this and a little of that but she was bound and determined to try to find a recipe that she could make "at Home her way" (smiling Momma here..)

While Rebecca was describing this drink to me, I told her that I thought what she was drinking sounded like a great savory breakfast or snack beverage.  What are all those spinach and juice green smoothies after all, but a bunch of juice and veges blended up together?  Bloody Mary Mix is typically made with lots of tomato juice which is high in antioxidants anyway.  Add in some seasonings, lemon juice, lime juice, hot sauce, and you've got a spicy drink that is a great alternative for someone who is trying to avoid sugary drinks and snacks.  Add in a stalk of celery or a pickle and you have a real treat!

Bloody Mary Mix has a crazy name, but the ingredients that make it up are really no different than spicy V-8 juice, right?  I had never really thought about making my own spicy vegetable juice, but what better way of sneaking in a couple of extra vegetables into your day?

Here's how we made No Alcohol - Bloody Mary Mix AT HOME MY WAY:

No-Alcohol Bloody Mary Mix

  • 3 cups tomato juice
  • 1 1/2 oz lemon juice (since 2 oz = 1/4 cup, we used a little less than 1/4 cup)
  • 1 1/2 oz lime juice
  • 1 Tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 to 1 teasp. horseradish (we used 1/2 t. because our jar said "extra hot")
  • 3/4 teaspoon table salt
  • 1-2 teasp. Louisiana Hot Sauce (we used 1 teasp. and it wasn't hot at all)
  • 1 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black ground pepper (the kind in  your pepper shaker)

Directions:  Blend all together well with spoon or whisk.  Refrigerate a few hours or overnight before serving over ice or very cold.
